Papa, Can You Hear Me Sing?(撘錯車)

Introduction:

I watched this movie in Freshman Chinese class. It was produced in 1983 and its background was in Taipei city. The old mute solider makes his meet by picking up recycle garbage and selling them. Although he is very poor, he takes the girl orphan and raises her up. However, when his daughter grows up and becomes a famous star, she starts to look down her father and neighbors. On the other hand, the place they live is illegal and it is going to be tearing down. The changing between traditional society and modern society is also one of the main points in the movie.

Opinion:

How can a poor man breed a baby himself? The answer is that he can’t, instead, he needs lots of help from his kind neighbors. How can an old illegal village survive through the changing of society? The answer is that it cannot, what’s worse; it will be clean up in the end. A-Mei breaks up with her boyfriend, her father and neighbors because she is attracted by the game of chasing money and she loses her mind. In the end, she earns lots of money but she loses the most important thing that is her father. Moreover, we can see how Taiwanese society changes in that era. When facing the new mansions and skyscrapers, what old villages can do to avoid being demolished? Those feelings we cannot understand though talking, so just go to watch it and make yourself touched.
